Day 11: Iran seek killer instinct, Bangladesh look for solace

17 October 2016

The 2016 Kabaddi World Cup has entered its last week, which only means more entertainment in store for the viewers. The first match of the day will see Poland take on Iran in a Group B clash followed by Australia taking on Bangladesh in Group A. With all teams having little to lose and everything to gain, we can expect matches to be played with a lot more freedom.

Poland vs Iran

Poland bagged their first win of the tournament after soundly beating United States of America in their last match. They will be a match for Iran physically, but the latter are far superior in terms of everything else. Michal Spiczko and his men will look to play more freely and not allow Iran to run away with the game in the first half itself.

Iran have played brilliantly as a unit and have looked pretty much invincible in defence. They have been guilty of letting opponents off the hook in the second half of games and allowing a comeback, as they did against Japan and Kenya. They are capable of raiding better too and it will be interesting to see if they can step up a gear or two ahead of their semi-final.

Australia vs Bangladesh

The Aussies have improved well in the tournament and fought better against the Koreans than the lopsided scoreline suggests. Kuldeep Singh and Jasvir Singh have been immense with Campbell Brown and Adam Schneider also doing well. Bangladesh have enough experience and will be favourites without a doubt. A win for Australia will be an upset and do them a world of good before returning home.

Bangladesh will be disappointed after their thrilling loss against Republic of Korea after being in front for most of the game. Their hopes of making the last four have all but evaporated and it’s disappointing considering they were optimistic of doing so before the tournament began. Captain Aruduzzaman Munshi will look to motivate his side to move on from that loss and there is no better way than to win their final two games this week to go out on a high.

All the action will be coming to you LIVE from The Arena, Ahmedabad. You can catch it on the Star network and hotstar from 20:00 IST.
