Gujarat CM Vijay Rupani unveils the 2016 Kabaddi World Cup trophy

Amidst all the buzz and excitement around the 2016 Kabaddi World Cup which will be underway in Ahmedabad soon, the Hon. Chief Minister of Gujarat Mr. Vijay Rupani unveiled the official trophy for the tournament in the city. He was accompanied by the captains of India, Argentina, Bangladesh, England, Iran and Kenya teams at the event held at the GMDC Ground. Also present at the momentous occasion were Mr. Nitin Patel (Hon’ble Deputy Chief Minister of Gujarat); Mr. Deoraj Chaturvedi (CEO, International Kabaddi Federation); Mr. Anupam Goswami (Head – Kabaddi, Star Sports) and Mr. Udit Sheth (Founder & MD, SE TransStadia).

Mr. Rupani unveiled the official trophy at the annual Vibrant Navratri Garba 2016, an event trademark of Gujarat Tourism along with the State Government that observes the festivity of ‘Raas Garba’ – Gujarat’s signature cultural extravaganza which celebrates the coming together of people who perform Raas Garba to mark the triumph of good over evil.

The official trophy has a swirling arc on the waist depicting the movement style of the sport. Its carved out bold base symbolizes masculinity. The outer surface of the trophy incorporates a map which signifies the reach of kabaddi as a sport, worldwide. Weighing nearly 15 kilograms, the trophy has large arcs on it encircling the globe through the cut-out of the surface where the smooth surface of it catches the shadow of the world map carved out on the larger arcs. Conceptualised by Foley Designs over a period of two months, the trophy symbolizes the essence of the 2016 Kabaddi World Cup.

Along with this favourite annual festival of revelry, the city of Ahmedabad will also celebrate kabaddi as it plays host to the 2016 Kabaddi World Cup starting from October 7th at the state-of-the-art stadium, The Arena by TransStadia. 12 countries from all over the world are participating in the fortnight-long tournament.
